What Causes Heel Pain?

Left untreated, heel pain can lead to more serious problems down the road.

The most common cause of heel pain in adults is Plantar Fasciitis, which is now more accurately referred to as Plantar Fasciopathy.

Typically, sufferers of the condition will describe intense pain in the heel first thing in the morning or after periods of rest which eases with activity.

In children, the most common type of heel pain is Sever’s, and symptoms are typically described at the back of the heel bone at the insertion of the Achilles tendon. Sever’s is most commonly seen in very active children and adolescents.

There are several risk factors for developing Plantar Fasciopathy that are not limited to: obesity, occupations that require long periods of standing or walking, running and extremely flat or high arched foot types and poor footwear choices.
